In Motion
Anne Ulku · 2016 · Digital Print
"In Motion" abstracts a bicycle into an optical illusion: concentric rings, ruled line fields, and shifting halftone stripes in red, cyan, and orange. The red frame reads as a single continuous skeleton threading through wheels that appear to spin the longer you look, and the striped grounds behind them push the whole image forward. Ulku's own note on the piece is simple: she is drawn to the movement of cycling and the form of the bicycle, so she reduced the bike to line, repetition, and color until the stillness turned into speed. Produced for ARTCRANK as a high-resolution archival ink jet print on Epson Hot Press natural white.
I especially enjoy creating things that make you look twice or think harder.Anne Ulku
