Something Impossible
Marian Bantjes · 2014 · Screenprint · 24 × 18 in
Created on Bowen Island, British Columbia for the Chicago Design Museum's 2014 "Something Impossible" Kickstarter series, a companion to Chuck Anderson's NoPattern print. Bantjes answers the prompt with a dense, kaleidoscopic screenprinted pattern, stacked rows of triangles, arrows, dots, and ornamental geometry in CMYK inspired color. The 24 by 18 inch poster reads as both textile and typography, every cell a small impossible structure that, repeated, becomes a meditation on collective ambition.
I want to make things look beautiful, and I love it when there is meaning behind that beauty.Marian Bantjes
