Wingstock — Where Music & Chicken Meat
CATAPULT / Dave Duke · 2011 · Festival poster · 12 × 18 in. PDF artwork; printing process not documented
A chicken on a guitar headstock. That pretty much says it all. This Wingstock poster brings music and chicken wings together with one wonderfully direct image: a plump white chicken perched on the top of a purple guitar, set against a bright orange field. Oversized lime-green lettering pushes right to the edges, while the line ‘Where Music & Chicken Meat’ makes the joke before you even get to the festival details.
Designed by CATAPULT, with Dave Duke credited alongside the studio, the poster promotes Wingstock at Mesa Amphitheatre. The lower corners carry the practical information without losing the energy of the illustration: local bands and restaurants, a wing festival, drinks, contests, and a kids’ fun zone. The Mesa Amphitheatre and City of Mesa marks anchor the bottom. It is a lively piece of local event design—simple, funny, and made to catch your eye.
Justin Ahrens identifies this as a 2011 poster, and a contemporaneous event listing advertised that year’s Wingstock for Saturday, April 9, 2011, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM at Mesa Amphitheatre. The artwork itself prints April 19, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM without a year; both dates are preserved as found rather than reconciled. The 2011 listing described Wingstock as a new festival, and by 2013 local reporting called it the third annual. The 2011 lineup is not documented beyond local bands, and the festival’s presenter that year is not established. The supplied file is labeled 12 × 18 inches. The printer, paper stock, physical print size, and individual art-direction or illustration roles are not documented.
