Hate Is A Man Made Disaster
Rick Heffner · 2005 · Screen print · Hurricane Poster Project
Heffner turns the word disaster back on us. Nine profiles, young and old, hatted and bespectacled, interlock into the canopy of an umbrella while thin white rain falls around them, and a small MADE IN USA chip sits on the handle. Serif capitals split across two colors carry the line: hurricanes arrive on their own, but hate is manufactured, which means it can also be dismantled. Made for The Hurricane Poster Project, the 2005 effort in which more than 180 designers donated posters and raised over $50,000 for Katrina relief. The poster went on to be recognized in HOW's Self-Promotion Design Awards, Print's Regional Design Annual, and the book New Masters of Poster Design.
