The Definition of Hope
Josh Higgins · 2012 · Offset print · Obama 2012 Campaign
A ribbon unfurls across a cream field, three bands of teal carrying a single Obama line: "the definition of hope is you still believe even when it's hard." Created during Higgins's tenure as Design Director for President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign, the piece exemplifies the Designing Obama era, vintage Americana sign-painting language, hand-drawn slab type, decorative starbursts in the corners. Where Shepard Fairey gave the campaign its 2008 icon, Higgins and his team built the systemic visual language that carried it through 2012.
The definition of hope is you still believe even when it's hard.Barack Obama
