Something Impossible
Mike McQuade · 2014 · Mixed media · Beads & sequins on paper
McQuade's contribution to the Chicago Design Museum's 2014 "Something Impossible" Kickstarter series. Thousands of pearlescent, multicolored beads are arranged on paper to spell out "Let's do something impossible," a slow, painstaking accumulation of tiny objects that physically embodies the prompt. The piece sits alongside the Marian Bantjes and NoPattern prints from the same series, each artist answering the impossible in their own language, pattern, collage, and here, sheer handmade material density.
