Tour de France 2011, Stage 16
Neil Stevens · 2011 · Digital Art Print
This poster commemorates Stage 16 of the 2011 Tour de France, 162.5 km from Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Gap on July 19. Thor Hushovd, wearing the rainbow jersey as reigning World Champion, is shown powering through the rolling green countryside of Provence, layered against geometric hillsides, a stone church village with a "Vive le Tour" banner, and a peloton crossing a river bridge. The stage turned on the Col de Manse climb, where Alberto Contador's late attacks split the general classification group, before Hushovd took the stage win in the sprint to Gap. Stevens renders the whole story in his signature flat, faceted style.
Each stage has its own story, the landscape tells it as much as the riders.Neil Stevens
