Second Chicago International Poster Biennial
Paula Scher · 2010 · Offset lithograph, exhibition poster
Scher's contribution to the Second Chicago International Poster Biennial, a spare counterpoint to the dense typography she is best known for. A single continuous hairline draws two nested spiral vortexes on a deep navy field, one large and one small, the whole thing resolving into a numeral 2 for the second edition of the exhibition. The show information is set in tiny letterspaced type that rides the curve of the upper spiral, so the only words on the sheet become part of the drawing. It is a reminder that the same designer who fills a poster wall to wall can also hold an entire idea in one line.
The best work happens when you're not trying to make something good, but trying to make something true.Paula Scher
