Hybrid Animals

A field of hundreds of unique, hand-drawn faces sprouts from dark tangled roots and branches against an olive-gold ground. Each face is distinct, smiling, frowning, bewildered, serene, rendered in Bucher's signature black-and-white ink style. The composition reads as both garden and crowd, suggesting identity grows from shared roots. The title Hybrid Animals points to the blurred line between flora and fauna, human and creature, that runs through Bucher's whole illustrative universe.
