344 New Year's Poster 2001
Stefan Bucher · 2001 · Offset lithograph · 2 colors · 11 × 17 in.
The first poster in Bucher's annual New Year's series. A giant chartreuse thought bubble dominates the composition, its bold black outline curving down to a trail of diminishing circles that form the year "2001," set in Jonathan Barnbrook's Exocet for its perfectly round zeroes. A tiny hidden message sits at the very bottom, though it only survived legibly on half the print run once the ink rollers stopped cooperating. Two colors on an 11×17 in. sheet, printed at a bargain basement shop in the Inland Empire, where the circles initially came out as octagons.
I'm still happy with this design. There's not a whole lot to it, but it's a strong visual, a nice curve on the bubble, and a pretty crop. I've done worse.Stefan Bucher
