SUNday SUN No. 353

Tad Carpenter · 2022 · Print · SUNday SUNS series · single color · dimensions unconfirmed

Tad Carpenter posted this sun in February 2022 with a short caption: "For our friends in Ukraine. #StandWithUkraine." Drawn in a single rust-orange color with the loose, scissor-cut edges of paper collage, it gathers a sun, a cloud, a flower, scattered stars, and a dove carrying a sprig into one round composition. The word peace sits along the bottom, its hand-cut letters rising and leaning like they were pinned in place. The sun here is not the main character but one part of a small, hopeful world. Sunday Suns, the Counter-Print book, collects suns from the project's first six years; it was published in August 2021, before this sun was made, so it does not appear in the book.

This project is an experiment. This project is play. This project is half therapy and half visual journalism.Tad Carpenter
