SUNday SUN No. 453
Tad Carpenter · 2024 · Gouache on paper · SUNday SUNS series · print · dimensions unconfirmed
Posted to sunday-suns.com in January 2024 and noted as "gouache on paper," No. 453 breaks the sun into a quilt of flat color blocks in navy, sky blue, coral, and gold. A woman in profile, with long dark hair, sits at the center while a coral hand curls in from the left, a palm tree rises on the right, and a gold glass stretches across the top. The sun itself is a small, spiky gold burst tucked at the left edge—a warm memory of a beach day painted in the middle of a Kansas City winter.
Sunday Suns, the Counter-Print book, collects suns from the project's first six years; it was published in August 2021, before this sun was made, so it does not appear in the book.
This project is an experiment. This project is play. This project is half therapy and half visual journalism.Tad Carpenter
