SUNday SUN No. 476
Tad Carpenter · 2024 · Gouache on paper · SUNday SUNS series · print · dimensions unconfirmed
Posted in July 2024 and noted as "gouache on paper," No. 476 shares the palette and patchwork grid of No. 453—navy, sky blue, coral, and gold—but turns stranger and more playful. A bearded figure in a cap puffs a pipe while oversized hands hold up small mushrooms; more mushrooms sprout around a ribcage, bare feet, and toothy coral spikes. The sun burns in the upper right corner, half gold and half white, its coral rays spreading like a summer afternoon.
Sunday Suns, the Counter-Print book, collects suns from the project's first six years; it was published in August 2021, before this sun was made, so it does not appear in the book.
This project is an experiment. This project is play. This project is half therapy and half visual journalism.Tad Carpenter
